CK's TOP 10 of 2009

CK LOOKS BACK AT HIS BIGGEST ADVENTURES & MOMENTS OF 2009

10. Meeting 'Wiarton Willie'

Maybe a shocker to even make this list for some, but to me, it really was a great experience! After driving 3 hours in the evening on icy roads and blowing snow, and then sleeping in my car in a parking lot...I made it in time to be present for the moment "Wiarton Willie" (the Canadian cousin to Punxsutawney Phil) had seen his shadow. A tradition that put the little town of Wiarton, Ontario on the map, for at least once a year - the Groundhog Festival makes the town all abuzz: enough to declare Groundhog Day a public school holiday and have international press covering the event. I actually was lucky enough to meet the famed groundhog, as well as the Mayor of Wiarton!

9. Montreal Road Trip

In October, I was lucky enough to visit Montreal on two occassions. Both times were awesome autumn drives and very memorable. The first visit was with the Tazemaster, as we explored the Mont Royal mountain together and visited my relatives. The second visit I was with Treeesh and was lucky enough to grab a bite at the world famous Schwartz's, getting an official Montreal smoked meat sandwich! I was also in town to attend my friend, Anna McIntyre's art exhibit opening (The Circus & the Pimp’s Jalopy) which combined performance art with multimedia installations. Ahh... la belle province! Not to mention the best poutine anywhere!

8. Caribana 2K9

Partying with over 1.3 million people in the Toronto summer at the largest street festival in North America. It was my Caribana rebirth -- the best Caribana experience I had in years. The Tazemaster and I put on luchadore masks and walked around enjoying the masquerade. People from all walks of life stopped me asking for me to pose in pictures with them, or hold their babies and then they'd take a pic. It was unreal, but lots of fun. I totally enjoyed that day and Caribana was once again, great!

7. Cottage with Seven Women

Yes, well the title pretty much says it all. However, the majority of them are little women. Babies, toddlers and mommies. Besides being the lone dude, the cottage experience up on Georgian Bay was definitely a major moment of relaxation and a defining summer moment. The beautiful sunsets, the crystal clear beaches, starry nights and campfires were epic. I loved every minute of it -- even if I was the only male in a total female dominated environment.

6. Germans Invade Toronto

My friends, Kristina and Ilka came to visit Canada on a 2 week adventure. Staying with me in Toronto where I took them through a whirlwind of activities such as: The AGO, CN Tower, Niagara Falls, Harbourfront, bar hopping and the Canadian National Exhibition. Needless to say, we had a blast -- especially at the CNE where The Big Black Machine came along and made it very memorable winning prizes for each of them. It was totally a highlight of my 2009.

5. Clubbin' With Jeanine

I've been clubbing for over a decade almost all over the world. London, Miami, New York, Malaysia, Los Angeles... but the most electrifying time I had was during this past summer with my new fav dance partner, Jeanine. What can I say? I'm sorry to break everyone's hearts -- but this chica is pure fire on the dancefloor! Fact. We went dancing multiple times and it was so much consistent fun that I had to include it on my list of top moments of 2009. (The above pic was one of few that I managed to snap while on the dancefloor) Usually I'm too busy dancing to stop and take pics!

4. Spring Break Road Trip

Driving from Toronto to tour the big college Spring Break Florida cities was a totally amazing experience. I've lived in Florida for a while, but never had the opportunity to do the typical spring break festivities that you see on MTV. Partying through Panama City, Tampa, Daytona Beach, Orlando and Miami was unlike anything I've ever done. I met a lot of great people whom are tomorrow's professional lawyers, doctors, helicopter mechanics -- pretty much the next generation of America! After meeting them, I'm quite confident that America's future is in good hands. The road trip itself had amazing scenery however I also was able to hop aboard a cruise ship and get all the way down to Key West, and then hit Cozumel, Mexico! Wow... if that's not a great Spring Break adventure, then what is? This was totally a highlight of 2009.

3. Trip To Paris & London

It was my 4th visit to Paris, and the best one yet. I finally got to see the Louvre and the Paris Catacombs. I met random people in Paris and ate a lot of crepes. The magical city definitely has some draw to it. Something about it is very romantic and mysterious. I loved every second I was there. Visiting London was also a blast, as I got to spend time with my friend Helen and her family seeing all the touristy things that the city has to offer. I also was able to attend my cousin Sharon's wedding. This adventure easily makes the list as it was an experience of 2009 that I can always look back to and appreciate.

2. Obama's Inauguration

It was a moment that marked history. People will always remember where they were when Obama was elected as President of the United States. My roadtrip and journey to be there was a moment itself. 3 days of no sleep and 18 hours of driving in the most frigid cold January I can remember. Arriving to the Washington Mall at 5am only to be put in a line and stand there freezing for another 5 hours only to find out that it was the wrong line to begin with! It was bittersweet for my group, as the hypeness and excitement of the moment was the only thing that kept us going. In the end, we got to meet jazz legend, Frank Owens and celebrate at a private party in his home. This indeed was not only a major moment for my 2009, but a major moment in my life as well as world history.

1. CK Takes Over the AGO

A life-long dream that came true. The day that I got to hold my head high and celebrate my very own art exhibit at the Art Gallery of Ontario. The culmination of over half a year's work was celebrated and opened to the public with press and fanfare that rivals when the Beatles came to America. (okay, well not as much as that! However, the crowd was huge) There are few moments that define a person, and this was my moment to shine. Everyone that was near and dear to me came from far and wide to enjoy this milestone in my life. There is no question that this was my Number One moment of 2009.

Other 2009 Highlights:

The Annual Summerslam BBQ at the CRAZYHOUSE was totally worth all the trouble. Watching Kristina vs the Big Black Machine in a street ball contest, only to have that followed by TBBM using a Tazer to scare Shelley was memories that made the summer golden!

Meeting Jaclyn and having my first shisha experience with her was fantastic. A totally cool friend that was in town for a blink of an eye. Was a definite highlight of my 2009.

My Body/Mind/Spirit Transformation of 2009 -- where I lost 30 lbs doing some of the most rigourous and intensive exercise of my life.

Celebrating my Birthday in the VIP lounge of Club Luxy with over 30 friends was totally a highlight of the year. Everyone that came braved the February snowfall to party with me.

My little cousins from New York - Sunil and Vicky visiting Toronto for the first time. I took them out to the CN Tower, movies and Dundas Square for a fun weekend adventure.

The night when Taste of the Danforth Greek Festival and Bo Wen's Birthday party was on the same night... The Big Black Machine, Tazemaster and I had a fun evening of food and partying. Maybe I should have made a TOP 20 List!!!

The pairing of Shelley and N8 Dogg to become "SHATHAN" was a moment nobody ever saw coming. That totally was a much talked about subject of 2009. Especially since they met through me and their romance started after hanging out at my AGO exhibit! Who knew that an art exhibition can also double as a speed-dating service?

2009 was full of adventures and memories that quite possibly make it the best ever. For years, I always regarded the year 2000 as a pivotal time in my life, and maybe the dawning of a new decade has something to do with it! I really look forward to what 2010 brings and hope its a very prosperous year for everyone!

cK's Art Exhibit at the AGO!

CK TAKES OVER THE BIGGEST ART STAGE IN TORONTO WITH THE INTENSION EXHIBIT!

It was a day that will be remembered as one of the Top 5 Best Moments of My Life. The day where I officially got to have my very own art exhibit opening at one of the biggest stages in Canada -- The Art Gallery of Ontario. The INTENSION exhibit, a collaboration between 6 artists that were given a second life at the gallery after being involved in the youth program during the last 10 years.

Myself, as well as the Big Black Machine, individually created art installations using High Definition video. We started working on the project since January 2009, and would meet every 2 weeks for workshops on video production, editing, camera techniques and so on that the AGO provided for us to create our video installations. The end result was revealed on Aug 12 2009 -- at a huge opening where people lined up around the city block, waiting in line to see what all the hype was about.

Many of my friends came from far and wide to be there for the opening. One of my dear friends skipped a flight going to Calgary, just so they could be there for the art opening!! (Thank you Jaclyn!) Other friends came who I haven't seen in years. (Ryan and Kelly!) My brother left work early so he could be there. (Thanks, Jonny!) Friends who just put it on their calendar to be there that day for me -- I can't thank you enough!! (Iq, Sarah, Andrea, Shelley, n8, JimmyVan, Luke, Mike, Robin, Lindsay, Vinh, Bo Wen, Warren, Jennifer, Aaliyah, Chris, Treesh, Nadia, Boyoh, Sondra, and so many more -- If I forgot to mention you, please forgive me!!!) It was a huge moment for me, that I'll never forget. Did I mention that already? Oh well, I can't get over it! Anyways, around 6pm -- the event started. There was a ceremony involving the President of Ericsson Canada, donating a huge cheque for $50,000 to the AGO's Youth Program. I was one of the few holding the huge cheque for the photo ops. After that, The Big Black Machine and myself said a few words about the program. We had to thank the main person for giving us the opportunity to be a part of the Art Gallery of Ontario back in 1995 -- she is none other than the matriarch of the Youth Program, Gillian McIntyre. The video below is how it went:

After our words, the ceremony was wrapped up and our group of friends came along for a mini-tour of the gallery spaces that inspired Gabe and I to create our installation pieces. We managed to squeeze about 30 people into the elevator which took us up to the 5th Floor, Contemporary Galleries. In this specific elevator, was a piece done by Vera Frankel that inspired Gabe to do his piece. The idea was to get everyone in the elevator to experience that trapped feeling and being told what to buy and what to shop for. After arriving to the 5th floor to view the piece that inspired my installation, we were turned back due to construction. So the next part of the tour was to go to the Salle Young Gallery and see our installations for the first time.

The entire group of us went to experience the INTENSION exhibit for the first time, myself included. There were a total of 6 art installations in the gallery, and the sound and video was fixed for it to work on a rotating loop. Which I did not understand! (However it has been changed) Anyways, Gabe's video came on first and everyone huddled around the 3 screens that presented his installation. His piece was a movie that he shot, produced, directed and wrote... all starring Yours Truly. It was a gripping movie about a person who gets trapped inside the AGO and told to shop... very similar to the Vera Frankel piece in the elevator. After it was done, Gabe got a huge applause. My installation started a while later. Everyone crowded around the screen to view my piece, which is based on society's portrayal of heroes. Based upon a piece created by Toronto artist, Anitra Hamilton entitled, "Wall Parade #3" -- I created my own version but as a video installation. After the video ended, there was a huge applause from the group. We all chatted and took pictures of each other. It was a fun time. After that, some of the group went around the gallery to view other stuff and some stayed around to socialize. For a celebration, a group of us went to have sushi next door. The food was great, we had a great time and had YELLOW WATERMELON for dessert. I kid you not. You can see it all in the slideshow below! Again, it was one of the best moments of my life and I'm so thankful and grateful for all the people that showed up for it. Thank you!!

cK Goes To Caribana 2009

CK AND TAZEMASTER ARE LUCHADORS AT THE BIGGEST PARADE IN NORTH AMERICA

It was my return to Caribana since 2006. The last 2 years I wasn't in my usual Caribana vibe. However, 2009 is the year I definitely returned, and in a luchador attire.

The last Caribana updates I wrote about were in 2003 and 2002. The golden years where N8 Dogg and I would hit all the lead up parties, after-parties and boat cruises. Oh, what times they were!! A lot has changed since then. Caribana is now properly known as "Scotiabank Caribana", the Palazzo Nightclub where the annual Soca Rave was no longer exists and is being demolished, and due to a recent city strike - the annual Caribana on the Toronto Islands was moved to Ontario Place.

Seems like a weird year for Caribana. However, it was still fun and drew over a million people. I went walking down Yonge Street on the Friday night, checking out the cars and all the people walking about. Saturday, the Tazemaster, my cousin Noel and Nafeeza all ventured downtown to the parade and had a great time. This year, 8 foot fences were implemented to help control people traffic. On paper, it sounded like a horrible and controversial idea. However, when I was there in person, it actually was a fantastic idea. For the first time ever, I went to Caribana, and it felt very organized. Not once was I in too much of a crowd and felt like I was suffocating in a sea of people. Thanks to the fencing, people were constantly moving, or at least allowed them enough space to do so.

For the spirit of Caribana's masquerade, the Tazemaster and I wore luchador masks. It was a big attention grabber as numerous people would ask to take a picture with us. I lost count of how many people posed with us and took pics of me posing! It was very fun and definitely memorable. Come to think of it, I think this might be the very first Caribana that I went with the Tazemaster!

cK and Jacs Excellent Adventure

CK AND JACS EXPLORE TORONTO WITH BURGERS, BREAKDANCING AND SHISHA!

Hmmm... what do you do when it's been raining all of July, and all of a sudden you get a Monday evening where the weather is humid, hot but great to be out? Call up Jacs!!!

Well that is what happened and we embarked on quite an adventure! We first met up at Dundas Square where we decided to grab a bite to eat -- since we were both starving. I magically had some discount cards for Johnny Rockets that took off 10% of the meal. So, we went there. I had a root beer float while Jacs had an Oreo cookies & cream shake! Mmmmm -- they were very good! Top it off with burgers, chili fries and great conversation to make one great start to the evening!

After that, we went for a random walk around the downtown Toronto core. No destination in mind, just random walking and chatting away. I walked along the "scramble crossing" at Yonge/Dundas just for fun with Jacs snapping some pics. As we walked around, the streets grew quieter. The bustle of the city was slowing down as the night darkened. We were passing by a little convenience shop and I remembered that I had 2 winning lottery tickets in my back pocket. Every time I would go to a store, the lineup would be too long to cash it in, so I just skipped it. This time, there is no line in the little store, so I went in. I gave one ticket to Jacs, and I told her to cash it in -- just so she could hear the melody play on the machine and the voice saying, "WINNER! GAGNON!!" (da-doo-da-doooo...do-do-do-da doot doot dooooo!!) She won $2. It was a little amount, but it's still fun to win!

We found our way into The Grange Park where we discovered an old tower that looks exactly out of a fairy tale book. Jacs said that it looked like the tower where Rapunzel was trapped in and let down her hair. I agreed!! We kept walking and ended up behind the AGO. It's an interesting sight to see at night. We continued to walk aimlessly, chatting about coffee and tea when I suggested we actually go and get one! Since it was wayyy past Starbucks operating hours, Jacs knew of a place along Yonge St that was a shisha cafe. I have never tried shisha (or hookah as its called in other circles) and wanted to do it. So we get a great seat on the patio with a pot full of tea and baklava. The shisha flavour that we got was "LEMON" as the hosts kept suggesting we try it. Jacs really liked the "GRAPE & MINT" flavour, but we figured to try something new for the both of us. The following video (in High Definition) is of my very first shisha experience:

Crazy!! I love trying to snort like a bull! Well, the veteran shisha chick, Jacs was giving me a little demonstration and pointers. The following is a video of her (in High Definition) demonstrating two techniques.
I could have hung out with Jacs all night, but I had to go! So we cut our fun adventure evening short as I walked her to the subway station. It was a fun night, I can't wait until the next adventure!!

cK Goes To Gairloch Gardens

CK WELCOMES THE SPRINGTIME AT OAKVILLE'S HIDDEN GEM!

Ahhh... the spring time! Birds are chirping, the trees are in bloom and the weather is just beautiful! What a perfect day to explore one of Oakville, Ontario's hidden gems -- Gairloch Gardens!

I met up with my friend, Tanya, first at Starbucks -- since she's the resident Oakvillian, and we went to check out the gardens. Right from the entrance, it was stunningly beautiful. It was a great day to visit the gardens, however the gallery itself was not open so early. There were little kids in a school group from Loyola that were drawing pictures of things in the pond, birds, ducks, whatever they could see and record with their pencils onto a piece of paper. I wish I could have chatted with them so I could grasp what exactly they were observing.

Anyways, Tanya and I venture towards Lake Ontario. It was so blue and beautiful. The breeze was very minimal, but a great compliment to the warm sun beating down on my forehead. We walked over to a stream where there were catfish and Canadian geese. Tanya discovered tadpoles in one of the ponds and I was hoping to catch a glimpse of a frog or a turtle. I guess I'll have to wait! There were lily pads though!! We walked up a hill towards the east side of the gallery. Tanya told me that she came here as a kid and there was a big bush carved into the shape of a Cadillac! I really wanted to see that! However, there wasn't any neato shaped bushes today. There was this metal enclosure that had windchimes at the top of it, which looked like it would make a nice song during breezy conditions. Today was not a breezy day, so no song! We kept on walking up more towards the parking lot and I saw these interesting sculptures. I had to get a closer look! I did, and I asked Tanya to take a pic of me beside them. I'm very happy with the pic!! We then got back into Tanya's car and she proceeded to give me a mini tour of Oakville -- she showed me things like her school, where she hung out, etc. It was very interesting! We passed by the old Sharkey's Bar,(a classic Oakville staple) which was sold a few years back and the land was turned into condos. Everyone seems to have a memory of Sharkey's!

Well, that was pretty much it!! A great start to a wonderful spring!

cK Goes Fencing

CK AND PALS MASTER THE LOST ART OF FENCING!

Myself, the Tazemaster, Vinh & Bo Wen met up with Iq's cousins to celebrate Amina & Nadia birthdays in fashion. How, you might be asking? Well by getting dressed up in armor and poking each other with fencing swords!! That's how!!

It was a very unique idea that brought everyone to the Toronto Fencing Academy in Downsview. A group of 30+ of us crowded the venue and were excited to try this sport that required lots of thinking and precise skill. Fencing -- the lost art of swashbuckling! Don't get it twisted, fencing is a lot more than trying to hit your opponent with a sword, in fact, that's not even what its all about. Fencing is more of a "poke" sport where your sword has a slight sensor at the very tip that signals to a box when you actually got your opponent. So just wild slices of your sword will probably not get you a point and leave you open for your opponent to strike you. It's quite fascinating!

We all got an hour training lesson from the staff. The main person overseeing everything was a guy named, Igor. He was excellent and very patient with our large group. He showed us basic techniques and hoped that the info he gave us sunk in our heads. After a little practicing with our swords on the walls, we were ready to be suited up. That took about 45 mins! Because our group was so big, the Toronto Fencing Academy brought out brand new, never used face masks, suits, swords for us to use! After we were all suited up, we got to challenge people to duels. Each match was refereed and the first person to get 5 points was declared the winner of the duel. The Tazemaster was very reckless with his unorthodox skills, ending with a 5-1 win/loss record. Vinh was also very competitive and won a few, lost a few. I was pretty much the same, I won matches against Vinh, but Tazemaster was unstoppable!

After our time was up, we thanked our hosts and went to have all-you-can-eat sushi in Markham. It was quite the day! The fencing however, was an experience I'll never forget! Special thanks to Igor and the entire staff at the Toronto Fencing Academy!!

cK Goes To Obama's Inauguration

ROAD TRIP TO WASHINGTON PLUS MET LEGENDARY JAZZ PIANIST FRANK OWENS!

It was a moment in history I knew I had to be a part of. People will forever talking about this day. People have fond memories of seeing the Queen on one of her visits, or some people remember where they were when Martin Luther King Jr. marched to Washington. I can say, "I was there", when Barack Obama became the 44th President of the United States.

I didn't really plan on staying in Washington to see the sights or anything like that. I knew the city was going to be bonkers, I just wanted to drive down and see the Inauguration and drive back. Along with me came my trustee pals, Vinh & Bo Wen, and my cousin Treeesh. The Big Black Machine was originally coming but backed out the last minute. So it was us -- and I just packed up the car and we headed down. I left around 7pm from Toronto, aiming to get to Washington around 5am so we could get there early enough to get a good spot. I drove all night through sleet and ice to get to our destination. We arrived around 4am -- and parked the car at a metro rail station. We got on the train and rode it to the main station nearest to the National Mall entrance we wanted to be at. When we surfaced, the streets were already crowded. It was 5am! People were lining up at the entrances. We followed signs and officers leading us to the line for the National Mall. We stood in line, with no movement for 3 hours! It was just after 8am or 9am where we found out that the REAL line to the National Mall wasn't even a line but fully moving through a tunnel that took you there. We wasted all that time and could have been so much closer to where we wanted to be if it wasn't for misinformation!!!

So we walked over to that way... our feet were so exhausted from standing all that time in one place but we found the energy to walk the long underground tunnel. We kept walking and walking and walking which seemed like forever until we ended up by the Washington Monument. In other words the very back of the back!!!! There were nowhere to sit.. just stand AGAIN. It was freezing cold, nowhere to sit and we've been standing for hours on end. Not to mention no FOOD anywhere and the bathrooms (port-o-potties) were far away. It wasn't really a pleasant experience on that end, but we were there for a major moment in history -- so we all felt that if we just get through this, we'll be fine afterwords to discuss the whole experience!

Everyone around us was also not comfortable, but the spirits were very high and excited to welcome the new President. When Obama was finally sworn in, people were cheering, crying and celebrating this moment. It really was something I will have with me the rest of my life. After it was over, we all headed back to the signs leading us to the subway or stations leading out. We were so exhausted from standing up we couldn't wait to sit down somewhere! Apparently, that wasn't going to happen either since the extreme amount of people clogged the streets disabling people to walk! It was like everyone crowded into intersections and just stopped. It was impossible to move, or get to someone else if you were separated. We were stuck for another 3 hours, just standing there! People around us were crying, there was an ambulance trying to break through the crowd, but it wasn't working as nobody could move anywhere! It was such a disaster! The planning committee didn't plan this out at all, or under planned this entire operation of people logistics before and after the event. The subway stations nearby were closed, and they had shuttle buses taking people to another station. The line up for that, was horrendous! Eventually, we broke free and made it to the subway. We boarded the train and slept until we got back to the station where my car was parked.

Once I got into my cozy and comfortable car, we drove to Boston Market and had a fantastic dinner. We then called up a number my friend in Amsterdam gave me to call -- it is a friend of hers that is in Washington. So I called it up and they invited me over. So we went there to meet up with them. The person was Jazz pianist, Frank Owens! Frank is a legend in the business, working with Billy Joel, Bob Dylan, Petula Clark, B.B. King, Louie Armstrong just to name a few! Anyways, he invited me into his home where there was a Barack Obama party! There were guests from all over. We all made new friends there as they invited us to eat in the fantastic food they prepared. However, Frank couldn't stay long as we was invited to one of the Presidential Balls happening that night. He got all dressed up in a tux and then had to leave. However, we were welcome to stay at the party with others and hang out. Mickey was Frank's partner taking care of everything and making us feel at home. It was so good to finally relax, get off our feet and drink wine!

They invited us to stay longer, but promptly at 12 midnight, we had to go and start the journey back to Toronto. Mind you, I haven't slept in 2 days! So we start the drive and I drive all night crossing back into Canada around 9:30-10am. Once I got back to Toronto -- I was so exhausted fell asleep for a day! The experience was definitely a story I had to share!

cK's Quest For Chili

CK AND PALS MISS TAILGATE PARTY AND FIND ANOTHER ADVENTURE

It a big football day in Toronto. The NFL's Buffalo Bills were in the Rogers Centre to take on the Miami Dolphins. There was a tailgate party with chili, ribs, beer and so much more fanfare going on and we wanted to be a part of it! So N8, The Tazemaster, Big Frank and I went downtown to check out the tailgate party. We got there at 4:30pm. The football game started at 4:05pm. Hence the tailgate party ended when the football game began.

So we missed out completely and we were freezing outside! So we made an attempt to try and get into the game. Wouldn't you know that not ONE person was selling tickets? There were no scalpers or anyone even trying to sell tickets. Anyone hanging outside the dome was ASKING to BUY tickets! It was unreal. We walked over to St. Louis Ribs, and it was standing room only. There were no tables available. So we started a trek to find a bar or place that was showing the game and we could get a beer. We walked over to the Steam Whistle Brewery. It was closed. So we went through the Toronto Convention Centre to defrost and ended up on Front Street. That's where we saw Lone Star steakhouse. We walked in and there were tables and booths available. Just not at that bar, where the game was playing -- that was already full! So we sat down, had a beer...and got CHILI!! That seemed to be a highlight. After so much walking and chilling our faces, the Chili was like a trophy for our marathon.

After we were content from the chili and beer, we went to Dundas Square and walked around for a bit. We decided to go to the AMC movie theatre and see "The Punisher: War Games". Before going in the theatre, we stopped in at Starbucks and got some hot chocolates. I, of course walked with Baileys in my napsack and added it to the choco. Mmm mmm good!! We enjoyed the movie and on our way out, we took some pics of ourselves in front of the Punisher movie poster. It was a fun night, it's too bad we didn't get to do the tailgate party but we still made the Sunday worthwhile!

cK and N8 at Toronto Ice Party

CK AND N8 DANCE ON ICE, GET FREE SHREDDED WHEAT AND GO TO A PUB!

The original plan was to go and see the "Cavalcade of Lights", a free fireworks and light show that was happening at downtown Toronto's Nathan Phillips Square. The show started at 7pm, but the fireworks started at 8pm. Can you guess what time WE got there? Well, if you have been reading for the last 8 years, you'd figure that we got there as it just ended. We could actually see a bit of the fireworks from a distance as I was looking for parking. It's okay though, there was an ice skating dance party happening right after with a live dj -- so we were not really too picky on being there on time. Just seeing the fireworks would have been nice.

N8 DOGG and I went over to Tim Hortons' and got the biggest size of hot chocolate we could buy. Once we sat down, I brought along my own bottle of Bailey's and added it to the choco. MMmmmmm! We were now ready to go to the ice party! We get to Nathan Phillips Square and see lots and lots of people ice skating and people dancing to music on the sides. There was a group of people dancing in a circle on the icy pavement, who looked to be having lots of fun. N8 and I joined in and danced with them. After a while, we then departed and took a walk to explore more.

We went to the Tim Horton's across the street and got another tall order of hot chocolates. I added some Baileys to these chocos and then we were on our way back to the square. There were so many people of all ages. As we were walking, a guy with a huge bag was giving out FREE Shredded Wheat! I was so impressed, he kept giving me more because I was so happy! Good thing I had a napsack with me! N8 and I chilled for a bit, sipping our hot chocolates and taking in the very fun and happy vibe. I was grooving to the music that DJ CAJJMERE WRAY was playing.

N8 and I then walked around some more and met back with the group dancing in the circle. So I took some sneaky pics posing behind them without knowing. Then I just went up to them and asked to be in a group shot with me, and they all got excited and posed! Then N8 got in a group shot with them and posed. After a while I was getting 3 to 4 cameras from everyone asking me to take their photos! I was all too pleased to do so! After the big photo shoot, we talked with the group and apparently they were in the Katimavik program. Katimavik is a volunteer program that brings youth from all over Canada to do work in 3 different provinces. They live with 11 other roomates and have a life changing experience. Members of the group were from British Columbia, Quebec, Ottawa, Newfoundland... just all over the place. They were really happy to be in Toronto and be a part of this experience. We were just happy to meet them!

After that, N8 and I headed to Yonge/Eglinton's Philthy McNasty's. We were meeting up with JimmyVan, Luke and Kabral to watch the highly anticipated Oscar De La Hoya boxing match. We had some beers and a great time watching. There actually is a dance floor there and I spent a little time on there. After the boxing match was over, we headed home and called it a night!

cK and Selena's Fun Day

CK AND SELENA HUNT FOR DOWNTOWN TORONTO'S BEST CHRISTMAS TREES

My old buddy from college, Selena called me to do a "gallivant day" downtown. I went along and spent the afternoon with no real goal or destination in mind. All we knew was that we wanted to be downtown checking out stores and walking around. The first stop was at Spring Rolls, where we were meeting Mr. Budhu for lunch. When Selena and I arrived there, we noticed a really pretty Christmas tree by our table. We then got the crazy idea to take as much pics as we could of the best Christmas trees on our city romp.

After having a fantastic lunch, we got to take a behind the scenes tour with Mr. Budhu at Toronto City Hall where he works. We saw his desk and phone... and... um.. that's pretty much it! End of tour!! Selena and I then headed to the Toronto Tourist Information booth where they gave us some free maps and lots of ideas of where to go with our free afternoon. We were in the mood for hot chocolate so we ventured across the street into the Sheraton Hotel. As we enter, we see a shoe-shine stand. I get up on the chair and get my shoes shined by one of the nicest guys I ever met. Selena took lots of pics of the event and we had a lot of fun with him. He did an amazing job as well. After my shoes were super shiny, we ventured up to TRADERS - a bar/pub inside the Sheraton Hotel. It was there where we got our hot chocolate -- with Baileys in a shot glass beside it! It was oh sooo good!!

Onto our next adventure, we walked to Queen Street where we hopped on the street car so we could go to Kensington Market and check out what's going on there. Our streetcar did a short turn at McCaul Street, so we had to get off and walk the remainder of the way to Spadina. On our little walk down Queen Street, we passed by the CITY TV - Much Music building. Selena wanted to go in and see what's happening. So we walk in and there was a live show happening (Much On Demand) and today's guest was Franz Ferdinand. We checked to see if there was any more space left, but it was already at capacity. They gave us a number to call to make reservations for upcoming shows. A big security guard came up to me and said, "Make sure you try to reserve for Monday, because Tom Cruise is coming in that day". I was very appreciative of that info and reminded myself to make sure I call the number!

Selena and I continued our walk down Queen Street. On our way, we bumped into CITY-TV reporter, Cynthia Mulligan. She was just about to walk into a Club Monaco. I said "Hello" to her, and she responded back with a very polite smile and hello back. She then continued her walk into Club Monaco. It was only after I realized that I could have stopped to take a pic with her. So I don't have any pics. We finally arrive at Spadina Street and get on the streetcar, we got off at College and then walked into the market. It wasn't as bustling with all the fruit stands like on weekends, but all the little tapas bars and cafes were open. So were some stores. We ventured into this one store that was super-duper cool. They had all sorts of knick-knacks and clothes and stuff. It was very cool. We found a Christmas tree in there as well and took a pic with it.

We left Kensington Market and headed to Dundas Square and met up with Kevin. We took some pics of the lighted tress there and the lit polar bears. We were hungry and went to eat at Jack Astor's. We had some food and another round hot chocolate with Baileys! We shortly ended the night and headed down to the subway station. On our way down, I see a guy I just met the other night at the Comedy Show... his name was Samuel Muzic! I introduced him to the group and we had some good laughs. We then went on our merry way home!
